We have a village shop to be proud of, well supported by locals and passing trade and run efficiently and successfully by volunteers working with a popular and respected part-time manager, Sue Mead.

Volunteering: New volunteers are always welcome and it’s a good way to get to know people and what’s going on in the village. Pop in and have a word with Sue if you think this is something you’d like to try. Or email for more details, remembering to give your phone number.

Metfield Stores is proud to use and support local suppliers. Click HERE for a list.

History of the shop
To find out how villagers managed to save the original shop from closure, reinvent it as a community interest company and, later, as a cooperative, read a potted history HERE.

The history of shops in Metfield since the early part of the twentieth century, including the takeover of Metfield Stores by a group of villagers on behalf of the community, is covered in a book written by local author Christine Brennan, METFIELD Tales From a Suffolk Village 1928–2017. Published in November 2017 and available from Metfield Stores, price £10.00.
