In the darkness of the evening of Friday 31 December 1999, villagers carried torches (were they alight? any photos?) as they made their way to the meadow at Captain’s Farm. Once the Queen had officially set light to the National Millennium Beacon, Metfield villagers – along with hundreds of others across the country – lit their own registered beacon to see in the new millennium.
