In 1974 James Fearnley and his wife Jackie moved to The Homestead in Metfield, where they set up Homestead Pottery. Four of their children were born in Metfield. Having been involved in home education, he helped to start Education Otherwise and Children First for children out of school. His keen interest in the smallholding movement led him to co-founded Mid Waveney Smallholders – a network of environmentally friendly families.
He and his family left the area in the 1980s to go to the north of England. James has since been involved in many diverse areas, including home education, smallholding, whole food, the Green Party, natural medicine, common land and bees.
He is also the author of several books, including Propolis: Natural Healing from the Hive and Propolis in Oral Healthcare.
