Despite the lockdown – or more likely because of it – our village shop is going from strength to strength. Staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers and the cheerful and hardworking manager, Sue Mead, Metfield Stores continues to offer a wide range of goodies as well as the basics – and all at reasonable prices.
We are grateful to all the new volunteers who came forward to fill the gaps when several of the regulars became vulnerable, as well as to those who felt able to continue. This has allowed the shop to serve you throughout the pandemic.
As from today, Monday 15 June, we are able again to extend our opening hours (see below). We value our customers and volunteers and encourage you to continue to shop in Metfield even though some Covid-19 restrictions are easing.
NEW – extended opening hours for your convenience!

Saturday: 8.30am to 2pm Sunday: 10am to 12.30pm
Also available: deliveries for vulnerable folk, Phone & Collect

NB: With apologies to Sue for misspelling her name in the emailed Blog! She is, of course, Sue Mead (not Read).
This blog will be an opportunity for the residents of Metfield to have a voice, to say what they think about things in general, things in particular and, most important, all the good things about living here.
We’d welcome contributions, however small, from anyone who is interested in Metfield, its history, how it ticks. Thinking of moving here? Ask questions about what it’s like, what there is to do. Are the villagers friendly? Come along to the Village Hall Bar on Friday or Saturday nights (you can also eat there) and meet some of the locals.
Pop in to Metfield Stores where you are bound to meet friendly locals who can answer your questions or just have a chat. You can buy a copy of METFIELD Tales From a Suffolk Village 1928–2017 (price £10.00) by Christine Brennan, local author and/or any of the other publications written by locals that are on sale there.
So please do write on this blog and tell us what’s going on, what you are thinking about and how we could improve this website.
