Talk about a scorcher! Lovely for many, inconvenient for some, unbearable for others… in July the sun kept on shining and shining. And August has been no different so far, though the slight drop in temperature at least means one can move around in more comfort.
It has been a hot and hard labour of love to keep things alive at the allotments. As most of you will be aware, ‘allotmenteers’ have to pump water up by hand and then carry it to our plots. Watering during the heat of the day is not on as the plants just fry in the sun. But hard work has paid off with some of the crops.
Sadly, though, there have been more thefts – a gooseberry bush denuded, a strawberry plot stripped, runner beans pinched and who knows what else! Please keep your eyes peeled for any unusual activity at odd times of the day, particularly early morning, and report anything.
